In 2014, historian, author, and magician Angela M. Sanchez was invited by the AMA to present her research from her UCLA Thesis, “Conjuring the Modern Woman – Women and Their Representation in the Golden Age of Magic” at the Magic Castle. Fellow author and magician Lituo Huang and she chatted, realizing there were a lot of women in attendance who might be interested in exploring magic together further, so they had the foresight to pass around a sign-in sheet and the beginning of what would become the WMA was born.
It’s been over ten years since then, and we now have well over 250 members. The group continues to inspire women to grow in their skills, knowledge and participation in the art of magic.

On March 11, 2024, the Magic Castle graciously hosted a 10-year anniversary party for us. They provided a lovely cake, bubbly, delicious appetizers, and a photo booth for an evening featuring magic by some of our literally amazing members.
